Wheatgrass is one of nature’s superfoods. It is packed with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, chlorophyl and 30 different enzymes. It is known for strengthening immunity, improving blood formation, repairing skin from acne and eczema, and relieving inflammation. If that weren’t enough, it is also rich in free-radical scavengers and is believed to inhibit cancer cell growth. Shots of wheatgrass are popular at juice bars and fresh wheatgrass can be juiced at home with a special juicer. But if you don’t frequent a juice bar or have a wheatgrass juicer, you can still enjoy this amazing gift of nature. Wheatgrass juice is available frozen in cubes at Whole Foods and other grocery stores and co-ops. You simply cut off the frozen cubes and place in a bowl of warm water to defrost. Then you can simply drink it as a shot. If you don’t care for the grassy, green tea-like taste, try adding it to unsweetened pineapple juice or toss the cubes in your favorite green smoothie before blending.
