A dairy-free diet is a diet free of any milk and milk products. Milk comes from mammals: primarily cows, water buffalo, goats, sheep and camels. Milk is used to make cheese, butter, cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream, yogurt and ice cream. People follow a dairy-free diet for different reasons.
